Prominent oppositionist in Armenia accused of attacking photojournalist Gagik Shamshyan

It’s not unusual for photojournalist Gagik Shamshyan to be at the centre of some kind of scandalous story. So far, we used to this story involve pro-government side and Gagik Shamshyan. Now prominent opposition representative Ararat Zurabyan is accused of attacking Shamshyan and threatening to break his camera.

It’s actions like this which make many people refrain from supporting the opposition. People may argue that, after all, what is the difference between those two sides? What is alarming in this story is the lack of coverage of the incident in pro-opposition media. Only 7or.am posted the news and updates.

Whatever the reasons for such outburst/attack, however ‘provoked’ Zurabyan might be, opposition Armenian National Congress should issue a statement condemning such a behaviour by one of its comrades.

I sometimes can't understand the idiocy of otherwise reasonable people.

Sometimes I think that there must be something in the water there.

Hayk, glad to know that you and Payqar.net share my views regarding this incident. I am puzzled and disturbed by ANC's silence. It's unacceptable and disappointing, to say the least.

Maybe it is time to face the music and acknowledge that crooks who benefited and profiteered from the war and who stood for no principle other than power, most probably haven't changed their stripes.

You had your chance to plunder the country once, LTP, isn't it enough?

With Shamshian's attitude I wouldn't be surprised if the Catholicos punched him one day.
Let's face it, shamefully Armenian society is used to answering with punches when wrong questions are asked.
I would love to see who would come out as a winner from a Levon-Serzh punch up. No, this would never happen. Armenians never fight one on one, their mates woul get involved and spoil the show with swearing and throwing stones........

A group of activists have taken up the issue with ANC leaders. The common understainding was to take note of the incident (and more importantly the silence of the opposition media).
We let the leaders know that any repetition of any similar case will be challenged very very seriously!!
