France expresses its dismay over acts of violence committed in Armenia which resulted in many casualties.

The violence and attacks on individual liberties must stop. We call for the early lifting of the state of emergency and the release of those arrested.

We urge the authorities and all the political forces of Armenia to open a political dialogue in order to promote a democratic process that will enable the sustainable return to stability in that country.

We support the mediation efforts being made by the OSCE and the European Union.
