Former deputy speaker of Armenian parliament detained

*UPDATE (7.15pm local time) - Karapet Rubinyan "considers himself a political prisoner and has begun a hunger strike."

Political detentions in Armenia continue.

According to reports, police detained Karapet Rubinyan, former deputy speaker of Armenian parliament, oppositionist from HHSh (All-Armenian Movement) party and supporter of first president Levon Ter-Petrosyan who is currently under 'house arrest'.

There were also searches by police in apartments of opposition figures, including head of HHSh Ararat Zurabyan and brother of Levon Ter-Petrosyan - Petros Ter-Petrosyan.
